Forein Policy Strategy 2024-2027

The foreign policy strategy 2024-2027 adopted by the Federal Council provides the framework for Switzerland's foreign policy for a period of four years. It defines priorities and objectives. It is a compass that guarantees the coherence of foreign policy.

The Federal Council's foreign policy strategy 2024-2027 is divided into seven priorities: four thematic and three geographical.

An effective foreign policy requires coherence in its definition. During the 2019-2023 legislative period, the Federal Council has begun to adopt a series of geographical and thematic sub-strategies, which are derived from the foreign policy strategy and enable it to be implemented more specifically.  

This approach is called the "strategic cascade of foreign policy" and is broken down into three levels.

At the request of Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, a high-level working group was set up to define medium-term perspectives on the opportunities, challenges and interests of Swiss foreign policy.  

Following several meetings in 2018 and 2019, a report entitled "Switzerland in the world in 2028" was published in July 2019.
